          Media Sovereignty: Rethink, Envision, Redefine

CPH:DOX is excited to announce the second edition of the CPH:DOX SUMMIT, returning on March 16, 2026.

In 2026, CPH:DOX unveils a bold and timely CPH:DOX SUMMIT programme addressing one of the most urgent questions of our time: how do we protect the infrastructure of truth in an age of political pressure, platform dominance, and AI disruption?

At the heart of this year’s Summit is the creation of independent digital spaces where voices and stories can circulate freely, beyond algorithmic suppression and commercial gatekeeping. As democratic systems face increasing strain and media ecosystems grow more fragile, the Summit invites filmmakers, journalists, technologists, and cultural leaders to rethink how we build, defend, and sustain public-interest storytelling.

Taking place on Monday, March 16, the 2026 Summit is titled “Media Sovereignty: Rethink, Envision, Redefine”. The day sets out to move beyond diagnosing the crisis and instead offers concrete strategies and alliances for reclaiming media sovereignty in a landscape shaped by concentrated platform power, geopolitical tension, and rapid AI disruption.

Across the programme, conversations will explore how filmmakers and journalists can help build new, resilient digital, financial, and physical infrastructures for information ecosystems under siege. The Summit will look ahead to 2030, examining strategies to ensure that vital stories continue to reach citizens despite shrinking access, rising misinformation, and opaque algorithms. It will also draw on lessons from the frontlines, sharing practical approaches to resisting censorship, strengthening cross-border collaboration, leveraging AI responsibly, and rebuilding public trust.

By bridging investigative journalism and documentary practice, the Summit underscores adaptability, solidarity, and collective action as essential tools for the years ahead.Whether you are a filmmaker, producer, journalist, impact strategist, policymaker, or simply invested in the future of democratic storytelling, this is where the next chapter is being shaped.

Presented in collaboration with ARTE as the official partner of the CPH:DOX SUMMIT 2026, we bring together leading voices from media, policy making, culture, and democracy to collectively imagine and develop bold solutions that treat media not merely as a consumer product, but as a vital sovereign necessity for democracy.

Doors open at 12:30. The event begins at 13:00.

          Opening Keynote by Bruno Patino

          13:05 - 13:20 Monday 16th Mar 2026 / 15 min

Bruno Patino is a journalist, writer, media analyst and President of ARTE France. As a keen observer of recent developments in AI, as well as deep structural changes in the media landscape, he will offer with his keynote address a new vision for public media in Europe.

The infrastructure we have relied on for decades in the public interest media field - imperfect and unequal as it was - appears to be melting. What are we up against, what can we defend or reclaim, and what do we need to build that's new and better?

By 2030, access to audiences is constrained, misinformation spreads faster than facts, and free expression is under pressure across Europe. While powerful documentaries continue to be made, their influence depends on whether they can still reach the ...

          Tales from the Frontlines

          16:00 - 16:55 Monday 16th Mar 2026 / 55 min

What can we learn from journalists—our closest cousins working in public interest media—who are arguably ten years down the line in the process of collapse and now reconstruction? What happens when state power and platform monopolies put ...
