              Part memoir, part detective story, This Pleasant Lady invites audiences inside a reimagined MRI scanner to travel through Victoria Mapplebeck’s body as a living archive of motherhood, cancer, desire, survival and the quiet cost of being “pleasant.”

              This Pleasant Lady is an immersive installation that turns my 61-year-old body into a living archive. Inside a reimagined MRI scanner, audiences enter a chamber where projection, binaural sound, voice and memory create the sensation of travelling through a life, past four brushes with death. Told through the machinery that saved me, the project explores survival, ageing, motherhood, desire and the stories our bodies carry. Audiences enter my body as archive and leave reflecting on their own, the scars, memories, diagnoses, relationships and survival stories their own bodies carry.

              Victoria Mapplebeck

              Biography

              Victoria Mapplebeck is a BAFTA award winning director and artist who has worked in Film, VR and immersive audio. Her works explore autobiographical stories which ask universal questions about our relationship with technology, parenting, health and wellbeing. Victoria directed Motherboard, a smartphone feature documentary which was nominated for a Grierson and three BIFFAs.

              Sandra Gaudenzi

              Sandra Gaudenzi is an internationally acknowledged authority in the field of interactive and immersive documentary practice. She’s a consultant, mentor, academic and writer. Sandra has extensive experience of impact in story telling, exploring how digital experiences can empower us to actively change ourselves and the world.

              Jamie Perera

              Composer & Sound Artist

              Biography

              Jamie Perera is a composer, sound artist, and producer. He is credited on over 40 films including winners of the SXSW Documentary Jury Award, The Grierson Award, RTS Award, and BAFTA and EMMY nominations, with mentions in Forbes, WIRED, The Guardian, Pitchfork, and the FT.

              Biography

              Michelle is a BAFTA award-winning executive with experience leading cross-functional teams in Film/TV production, digital storytelling, and immersive. Michelle was the Director of Product Delivery and Executive Producer at Factory 42 and was also Lead Producer for the R&D phase of "Impulse" (Anagram), which won the Immersive Achievement Award at Venice Film Festival (2024).
