          How Can We Get Closer to Audiences?

          For the past 30 years, independent media has grown and flourished globally. As a revelatory study in the US shows, there is an audience out there wanting an improved choice. We join the study's author, Keri Putnam, in conversation with Artur Liebhart and Matthias Pfeffer to see how we reach these audiences.

          How do independent films actually make their way to audiences and how much impact do they have?  Today, we have the data and capacity to know much more about audiences and how to connect them with the variety of choices they are clamoring for.

          Keri Putnam

          Keri Putnam is a media leader with extensive experience in creative, strategic, financial, and operational roles. Putnam works as a film and television producer, corporate and nonprofit board member, and advisor to multiple clients in philanthropy, media, and the nonprofit arts and culture sectors. Putnam is a former CEO of Sundance Institute and has held senior leadership positions at HBO and Miramax.

          Matthias Pfeffer

          Matthias Pfeffer (born 1961) is a philosopher, TV journalist, and the Council for European Public Space director. He was also a director and chief editor at FOCUS TV for 20 years and author of The Human Imperative and Return of Reason. He lectures on AI and democracy and lives in Berlin and Munich.

          Artur Liebhart

          Founder of Against Gravity, local film distributor in Poland and of Millennium Docs Against Gravity F.F., one of the biggest documentary event in Europe with 165K tickets sold, 16 competition sections and screenings in 7 cities in 2024. 22nd edition of MDAG: May 9-18 , 2025.

          Signe Byrge Sørensen

          Signe Byrge Sørensen is a four-time Oscar® nominee for producing The Act of Killing (2012), The Look of Silence (2014) and Flee (2022). She co-founded Final Cut for Real ApS in 2009. She has an MA (Int. dev. & comm. Studies), did EURODOC (2003), EAVE (2010), ACE (2018) and Inside Pictures (2021/22).
