              Join us for a FILM:MAKERS IN DIALOGUE with journalist, filmmaker, activist and Time magazine most influential people (2020), Shiori Ito in conversation with author, documentary filmmaker and journalist (New York Times) Alina Simone.

              Drawing from personal experience and their most recent films Black Box Diaries (2024) and Black Snow (2024) they will discuss moving from journalism into the language of cinema as a prolongation of their multifaceted work.

              Speakers

              Alina Simone

              Alina Simone is a Ukrainian-born documentary filmmaker and journalist whose work has appeared in the New York Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian and Amazon Originals. She is the recipient of an NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship and Mountainfilm Emerging Filmmaker Fellowship. Black Snow is her first film.

              Shiori Ito

              Shiori Ito is a journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker with a focus on gender-based human rights issues. For her contribution to Japan’s #MeToo movement, Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2020. Black Box Diaries is her feature documentary.
