THE POETIC TURN: DEPICTING CRISES THROUGH MEANS OF FICTION

          15:15 - 16:00 Wednesday 20th Mar 2024 / 45 min

Crisis and conflict are at the core of journalism and fact-driven documentary cinema. But what happens when filmmakers turn to poetic or experimental cinematic forms to depict conflict or trauma? What can other types of cinematic language offer in contrast to mainstream documentary or reportage coverage, and what are some of the challenges or limitations when adding layers of artifice or artistic expression?
