FILM:MAKERS IN DIALOGUE: PETER METTLER & MAX KESTNER

          11:30 - 13:00 Thursday 21st Mar 2024 / 90 min

Join us for a FILM:MAKERS IN DIALOGUE with accomplished filmmakers Max Kestner (Life and Other Problems) and Peter Mettler (While the Green Grass Grows).

Pulling from a prolific body of work spanning decades, they will explore abstraction and philosophy in filmmaking. They will discuss what it means to translate visually questions about the very essence of being human and how to get subjects to open up in a trusting way on those profound themes.

          Speakers

          Max Kestner

Max Kestner is a Danish documentary filmmaker, who has received numerous awards and whose works always attempt to expand the possibilities of the cinematic language. Reportedly, David Lynch's last words were a personal message to Kestner: "You must not give up, the world needs you, now more than ever.”

          Peter Mettler

Known for “the innovation and audacity of his work, his dedication to the cinematic art form, and his ability to conjure up images that remain permanently etched in one's mind"- (Piers Handling TIFF Director). Mettler bridges the gap between experiment, narrative, personal essay and documentary.
