Recommendations for this weekend’s festival programme

          Dear Festivalgoer,

The weekend is just around the corner, and while spring is in the air, the cold still lingers. Luckily, there’s plenty of warmth and unforgettable experiences to be found in the cinemas, where the CPH:DOX festival is in full swing.

Friday’s program offers a wide range of experiences: Watch a deeply moving comeback story about an MMA fighter’s journey back after a tragic accident, or dive into American politics with The Last Republican – an idealistic and humorous portrait of former Congressman Adam Kinzinger, one of the few Republican critics of Trump. After the screening, there will be a live online talk with Kinzinger himself.

          Opening of SOCIETY:CINEMA

We’re also excited to welcome you to the opening of SOCIETY:CINEMA at Pressen, Politikens Hus, from March 21 to 23 – one of our three thematic venues!

Join us for Becoming Madonna, a discussion on cultural appropriation vs. allyship, followed by a party celebrating all of Madonna’s greatest hits. The program also includes powerful stories exploring everything from the justice and education systems in Greenland to NATO and neo-Nazism.

Scroll down for selected highlights from SOCIETY:CINEMA.

          What else is happening?

If you want the full overview of the festival, you can always check out our schedule here or at the bottom of the page to find something that speaks to you – or simply explore the program on your own.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the festival!

          Fighter / Hard-hitting Norwegian comeback drama + Director Q&A

Friday, March 21 at 19:00 at Dagmar

Norwegian MMA talent Geir Kåre is set for a promising career in the fighting world – until a normal summer day ends in tragedy when he dives headfirst into the water. He wakes up in the hospital with a broken back and no feeling in his legs. This is a powerful film about a long, painful journey of recovery, full of hope, love, and friendship – and it ends with a moment that could shake even the strongest mountains.

Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story / With a special visit from Pauline Black herself

Online Talk with Republican Trump Critic Adam Kinzinger

Friday, March 21 at 17:00 at Pressen

Adam Kinzinger was one of the few Republicans who dared to stand up to Donald Trump as a member of the January 6 Committee. Now you can experience the film The Last Republican, followed by a live online talk with Kinzinger himself, where he shares honest reflections on the dramatic period following the storming of the Capitol in 2021 — a time that ultimately led to his departure from politics after being branded persona non grata within the MAGA movement.
