The Sanctuary of Dreams
France, Benin & Cameroon / Immersive video installation / 2025 / 44 min
'The Sanctuary of Dreams' invites audiences into a collective future-dreaming ritual, where imagination becomes a tool to envision new social, spiritual, and cultural realities shaped by shared human desires.
Artist statement
‘The Sanctuary of Dreams’ is a 44-minute immersive film and multi-sensory installation that forms part of the larger TOGUNA WORLD research project. Blending speculative storytelling, experimental animation, sound design, and mixed-media collage, the work guides visitors through a poetic future-dreaming ritual.
Rooted in dreams gathered from communities across Africa and its diasporas through the Global Mapping of Dreams research, the installation explores five fundamental human inquiries: How will we Eat, Play, Dream, Pray, and Love in the futures we desire? These themes unfold through layered visual landscapes, symbolic environments, and intimate audio narratives that center care, dignity, ecological balance, and collective joy.
The installation functions as both an artwork and a living archive, transforming collective imagination into immersive world-building. Visitors are not positioned as passive viewers, but as participants in a speculative space where new cultural futures can be sensed, felt, and envisioned.
