Sudan, Remember Us

They are young Sudanese yearning for freedom. Their revolution is poetic, driven by the power of words. As it intertwines their stories, the film reassembles fragments of a revolution, a battle pitting the voices of youth against the military's might.
One month after the fall of dictator Omar al-Bashir, filmmaker Hind Meddeb enters the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. The streets boil with jubilation. Civil resistance has brought an end to 30 years of rule. Democracy is suddenly within reach – and not least among the young protesters, hope for a brighter future shines.
Meddeb documents this historic moment at street level, and in conversations with the hopeful young people, you sense the opportunities they have been waiting for all their lives. But even though the dictator has fallen, the past still casts long shadows. Can the young people keep hope alive?
Hind Meddeb encapsulates both the euphoria and the complex aftermath, as the country struggles to find its footing and translate ideals into a difficult reality. ‘Sudan, Remember Us’ is a captivating tribute to the articulate youth, to the dreams and hope, but never at the expense of the realities of the new and difficult situation they must navigate.
