METAMETA – The World Without Us

Elias Schaffalitzky, Nicklas Koney, Edward Therkildsen, Markus Simonsen, Jacques Pedersen, Martin CitySlang Kogi & Lars H.U.G. / Denmark / 2026 / World Premiere / 60 min

A journey through Lars H.U.G.'s creative mind and musical universe with the man himself as tour guide, and with brand new songs on the soundtrack.

There would be a Lars H.U.G.-shaped hole in Danish music if the man with the incomparable voice and poetic pen did not exist – but fortunately he does! However, Lars HUG’s creativity is not limited to songwriting. He started out as a painter – but then bought a guitar so that, according to him, he wouldn’t cut off his ear like Van Gogh or his member like the Aarhus painter Ovartaci.

As we know, it went very well, and now he is simply making his debut as a film director with a film that is excentric and unpredictable. According to Lars: ‘The film is a random film about nothing. The film is about form and artistic intention, and if it’s about anything, it’s a world without us.’ (‘The World Without Us’ is the title song on his upcoming soundtrack for the film).

It is a deeply personal and (very!) playful journey through his ever-active mind, where ideas arise like volcanic eruptions of spontaneous and unfiltered creativity. The result is a completely unique film that hardly resembles anything else you have seen. Because if you know what you want, there is no reason to do it – that is Lars’ own personal motto. As an extra scoop for fans, you get a handful of brand new songs on the soundtrack.

The film will only be shown twice during the festival, in Copenhagen and Aarhus, where Lars and a few musicians will be on stage to transform the film into an unforgettable live cinema concert!
