Artist statement
‘Burden of Other People’s Dreams: Chapter One – Ganymede’ is a story told by an author who refuses to be an author, so they try to convince you that you are the author. Which is ridiculous, since clearly you’re the reader.
But then it turns into a film and suddenly you’re a viewer. Which is even more ridiculous.
If all that wasn’t bad enough, the so-called author can’t even bother to put names or faces on the characters and all the scenes take place in empty rooms. Before you know it, the author has disappeared altogether and you find yourself in the middle of a ghost story that you yourself supposedly have to invent.
You might be saying: I don’t understand. Is it a movie? A book? Or what? t’s all of those things at the same time. Especially the “or what” part.
‘Burden of Other People’s Dreams: Chapter One – Ganymede’ is presented as a live cinema experience at Montana’s flagship shop in Copenhagen, staged as an intimate living room encounter for a single audience member.
The audience will have 80 minutes in a room to read the book on an e-reader, and the reading experience will be occasionally interrupted by films playing on a TV.
Note: The experience will take 80 minutes and is limited to one person per session. If you require descriptive subtitles on the film elements for accessibility reasons, please let us know when booking. Note that as subtitles already exist within the piece, the artist recommends this option is chosen only if needed. If you need any further information or have any questions regarding accessibility, please write to interactive@cphdox.dk
Ticket information: Ticket price is 110 DKK (excl. payment fee) and does not include access to the INTER:ACTIVE Exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Tickets are non-refundable. Be on time as noted on your ticket.
