Our Father Wears a Sun
Jasper Spanning & Rosalinde Mynster / Denmark / 2024 / World Premiere / 59 min
A brother and sister's loving, poetic and personal film poem to their late father, Danish actor Søren Spanning.
Ten years ago, the renowned and charismatic actor Søren Spanning suffered a stroke in the brain. Although he woke up after a month in a coma, it was a new and different Søren than the strong and colourful father that his two adult children Rosalinde and Jasper had known, and with whom they had been able to discuss everything from art to love. Now he was paralysed on the left side of his body and confined to a wheelchair. ‘Our Father’s Sun’ is the adult siblings’ personal, poetic and surprisingly life-affirming film about (and not least a tribute to) the father and the human being Søren, who passed away in 2020. Beautifully shot on analogue film by Jasper Spanning, an eminent cinematographer who, together with his sister, enters a much more personal space and emerges with one of the most beautiful films about grief and joy imaginable.
