Bluish
Lilith Kraxner & Milena Czernovsky / Austria / 2024 / 83 min
Beautiful and atmospheric feature film about two young women in an unnamed city, which with delicate poetic and psychological presence maps out life after social isolation.
It’s winter, and two young women are adrift in an unnamed European city. If ‘bluish’ were a state of mind – and the film of the same name very much is – it would be a feeling somewhere between melancholy and radical openness. This is how Errol and Sasha experience the world around them, and it’s the feeling the film describes with a soft and almost weightless poetry. The directors behind ‘Beatrix’ (CPH:DOX 2022) are artistically related to the Berlin School, but in just two feature films they have established an elliptical film language that is unmistakably their own. A contemporary piece of filmmaking that also takes the temperature of the mental situation after covid lockdowns and social isolation. Winner of the main prize at FIDMarseille.
