This year’s SCIENCE:CINEMA venue is Nørrebro Teater!
When CPH:DOX soon fills the entire city with documentary films, Nørrebro Teater will be transformed into SCIENCE:CINEMA, becoming the center for the festival's many popular science films. It all kicks off with the Danish documentary ‘Menopause Mystery’.
Wednesday 4th Feb 2026
Come down into the core of the CERN reactor, into the recesses of our brains through dreams, dementia, and cognition, through caves and caverns, and all the way to the far corners of the universe, as CPH:DOX once again focuses on the world of science.
With a science program that addresses some of the greatest challenges of our time, such as the lack of funding for research into women’s health and the exponential problems surrounding the development of AI, to science’s most noble endeavor, transnational cooperation, which seems more important than ever before.
SCIENCE:CINEMA kicks off with ‘Menopause Mystery’ by Danish director Louise Unmack Kjeldsen on Friday, March 13, at 20.00.

The mystery of the lacking research in women’s health
Meet the director for the premiere, menopause researchers and more, when we discuss the mysteries of menopause.
Menopause Mystery
A personal and investigative documentary about a phase of life that half the world's population goes through, yet we know surprisingly little about.
‘Menopause Mystery’ is a personal journey into one of science’s biggest blind spots. When documentary director Louise Unmack Kjeldsen is struck by insomnia, brain fog, and depression, she discovers that her private crisis is in fact a global experience shared by women all over the world, often without being recognized or taken seriously. In her search for explanations, she travels to meet leading researchers in brain science and psychiatry. They examine how hormonal changes affect women’s mental health and working lives. And point to an increased risk of depression and dementia as a possible consequence.
After the film, we invite you to a conversation about the lack of research into women’s health and all the knowledge we still lack about menopause, and why it is so important that we fight for science to be for everyone. The conversation is presented in collaboration with Femina and moderated by Femina’s Editor-in-Chief, Tine Brødegaard Hansen.
The SCIENCE:CINEMA is presented in collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, Videnskab.dk, and DDSA, and is made possible with support from the Lundbeck Foundation, the Leo Foundation, and the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
The full program for SCIENCE:CINEMA will be launched on February 18.
CPH:DOX 2026
CPH:DOX – Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival – is one of the world’s leading documentary film festivals, supporting independent and innovative film art. The festival is known for challenging the documentary genre and promoting art as an active voice in civil society. In 2026, the festival will run from March 11-22 and, as always, offer a wealth of film screenings and events around Copenhagen, introducing audiences to the best documentaries from Denmark and abroad while highlighting some of today’s most controversial and pressing issues.
CPH:DOX has grown beyond the capital and now also takes place digitally on the streaming service PARA:DOX and as local film festivals via DOX:DANMARK. In 2025, the festival welcomed more than 150,000 guests. The full program for CPH:DOX and DOX:DANMARK will be announced closer to the start of the festival.
