Friday 19th Dec 2025
Louis Theroux is a genre‑defining documentary filmmaker and presenter, best known for his deeply immersive and empathetic programmes that explore the intricate and often contentious facets of human existence. These include his BAFTA‑winning series Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends and When Louis Met…, alongside a string of acclaimed and award‑winning documentaries. Louis Theroux immerses himself in challenging environments, allowing his audience a glimpse into the often-unseen corners of our world. His gentle and charming approach to interviewing and documentary filmmaking is uniquely his own, as is his ability to offer rounded portraits of his subjects while always resisting easy judgements.
At CPH:DOX 2026 we invite you to an evening dedicated to the award winning documentarist, when Louis Theroux visits a Danish film festival for the first time ever! We will screen his newest film ‘The Settlers’ about Israeli settlers on the West Bank and afterwards you can meet Theroux himself in a conversation with Opinion Editor at Politiken, Lotte Folke Kaarsholm, about the making of the film and his approach to documentary filmmaking.
About The Settlers
Fourteen years ago, Louis Theroux visited the Westbank, following a group of ultra Zionists, infringing on international law by building their homes in Palestinian territory. Now, Theroux is back in the Westbank, in a post October 7th world. Following a growing community of religious-nationalist settlers on the Westbank, Theroux approaches the dire situation with caution and his otherwise withholding manner is pushed to its limits, once he encounters “The Godmother” of the settler community, Daniella Weiss.
With visits to Palestinian homes, under constant watch and rule of the Israeli military, as well as the homes of the settlers, wishing to expand into even bigger territories, the film provides a glimpse into the daily lives of the people living through what the rest of the world is only seeing on a screen. Louis Theroux’s unique and observant style of journalism allows him to get up close to a community that is otherwise closed off from the public, unveiling the inner lives, religious-beliefs and extremist activities of the Israeli settlers.
‘Louis Theroux: The Settlers’ is a BBC commission produced by Mindhouse and distributed internationally by BBC Studios.
The full program for CPH:DOX will be announced in February 2026.
