          Standing Up for Press Freedom in an Increasingly Authoritarian State

          Meet the director of '80 Angry Journalists', András Földes in conversation with Human Rights Watch advocacy director in Europe and Central Asia, Iskra Kirova, about the fight for press freedom in Hungary.

          In 2020, Hungary’s largest independent newsroom, Index.hu, collapsed under growing political pressure. In a historic act of protest, more than 80 journalists resigned en masse. After the screening of ’80 angry journalist’, we take a closer of look of what happened and discuss the current state of journalism in Hungary, the importance of having a freedom of the press and the basic human rights of freedom of speech and assembly, in the run-up to the election in Hungary. For this talk, you can meet the director, András Földes, in conversation with Iskra Kirova, the Europe and Central Asia advocacy director at Human Rights Watch.
