Palestine in the Media: Perspectives and Responsibilities
After the screening of 'Palestinian Unwanted' you can meet the film's director, Omar Shargawi, in conversation with Anton Geist, editor-in-chief of Information, and Paula Larrain, Senior Advisor at Amnesty International.
How have the Danish media covered Hamas’ attack on 7 October, Israel’s subsequent military attack on Gaza and the thousands and thousands of civilian casualties? Who feels heard in the public debate – and who feels left out? And what responsibilities come with an international conflict becoming part of the Danish public sphere? After the screening of ‘Palestinian Unwanted’, CPH:DOX invites you to a conversation about the role of the media, the voice of activism, and the dilemmas that arise when perceptions of acts of war, identity, and geopolitics collide here at home. The film was created by Omar Shargawi in the period after 7 October 2023 and is based on his personal experience of both the events in the Middle East and the Danish debate that followed.
In conversation with Mads Frimann Petersen, journalist and host at TV 2, Omar Shargawi meets Anton Geist, editor-in-chief of Information, and Paula Larrain, senior advisor at Amnesty International, for a debate about the role of the media, criticism of the coverage and the dilemmas that arise when strong emotions, political analyses and human rights perspectives collide in the public sphere. A debate about representation and responsibility, about trust and credibility – and about how we talk about a conflict that many experience as both deeply personal and deeply polarising.
This conversation will be in Danish.
