Martin Krasnik and Omar Shargawi in Conversation
Can we even talk about Gaza? A confrontation in the street sparked a heated debate about media, activism and the limits of public discourse. Now Omar Shargawi and Martin Krasnik meet face to face at CPH:DOX.
In the wake of Hamas’ attack on 7 October 2023 and Israel’s subsequent attack on Gaza, the Danish public has become a mirror of the global polarisation of the conflict. Words such as “genocide”, “anti-Semitism” and “Zionism” divide opinion, and the battle lines are sharply drawn. Some believe that the media has failed. Others believe that the rhetoric has gotten out of hand. What they have in common is the experience that conversation quickly turns into confrontation. Before the premiere of Omar Shargawi’s new film ‘Palestinian Unwanted’, CPH:DOX invites you to a conversation about that which often fails: dialogue.
How do we talk about a conflict that is perceived as existential? When does confrontation become necessary – and when does it become destructive? Has the media failed? Has activism crossed boundaries? And what is our responsibility when words themselves become a battlefield? Politiken’s Lotte Folke Kaarsholm moderates the conversation between Krasnik and Shargawi, which touches on power, minority experiences and democratic responsibility. A conversation that will not resolve the Middle East conflict, but will examine why the debate about it is so difficult. Entry: 50 DKK.
The conversation will be in Danish.
