          In Service of the Heart

“I am here” can be the most important words a person ever hears. Meet Eva and Emil Kruse for a conversation about their work on Jeg Er Her (I Am Here) and the importance of being there for one another when a heart stops beating. Following the screening of 'When Pigs Fly', we continue the conversation in Social Cinema for an evening about responsibility, presence, and the moments when you choose to show up for others.

What does the heart mean to us? Is it merely a muscle that keeps us alive – or does it also hold our relationships, our sense of responsibility, and our connection to others?

With TrygFonden’s Heart Runner campaign Jeg Er Her as its focal point, CPH:DOX invites audiences to an evening where reflection is transformed into action.

To set the stage for the conversation we’ll show the short film Jeg Er Her, rooted in the personal story of musician and lyricist Emil Kruse and his sister, creative director Eva Kruse, whose father suffered cardiac arrest – and survived because others stepped in to help. The campaign highlights the Heart Runner initiative and the simple yet crucial decision: to be the one who responds when another person’s heart stops.

The film revolves around the heart as both a biological reality and a symbolic core. While the film When Pigs Fly is about blurring the boundaries between species – when a pig’s heart can potentially keep a human alive – Jeg Er Her explores the thoughts that arise when a heart stops suddenly and unexpectedly: regret, uncertainty, loss, and compassion for others. Where When Pigs Fly opens up a philosophical and ethical reflection on the value of life and our relationship with other living beings, Jeg Er Her takes the question one step further – from thought to action.

For what does the heart mean if we do not act when it truly matters?

After the screening, Emil and Eva Kruse will take the stage together for a conversation about courage, doubt, and the decision to step forward. Eva and Emil will be joined on stage in turn by the director of the Jeg Er Her film, Ian Isak, as well as Grethe Thomas and Signe Villumsen, respectively Project Director and Senior Project Manager of the campaign at TrygFonden. The talk will explore what drives engagement, what it feels like to stand in that moment, and why “I am here” can be the most important words a person ever hears.

The evening is an invitation not only to reflect on the heart – but to consider what it means to act on it.

This conversation is presented in collaboration with TrygFonden.
This conversation will be in Danish.
