I Am Not Your Token
What is wrong with the representation debate in film? The Soulfuls sets the stage for a panel discussion where filmmakers from the network explore why the debate often goes round in circles.
Following the screening of ‘This is Not a French Film’, a Belgian meta-mocumentary that follows the director himself and other racialised filmmakers in a conversation about representation in the film industry, the conversation continues with The Soulfuls about the gaze that dominates the film world. The documentary balances humour with a serious look at Belgium’s colonial history and sets the stage for an important conversation about why the discussion of representation often goes round in circles.
Meet Diêm Camille, actor, writer, and director along with Roja Pakari, award-winning documentary director, and Amalie Montaser, filmmaker and screenwriter. The conversation is moderated by Veronica D’Souza, Board Member at The Soulfuls and entrepreneur.
The Soulfuls is a partner of CPH:DOX and is a non-profit organisation that works to create fair opportunities for women, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, through mentoring, networking and collaboration in the industry.
This conversation will be in English.
