Firsthand Accounts From a Hospital Ward in Gaza
Meet director Poh Si Teng and the three doctors at the center of the film 'American Doctor', which follows their struggle to save lives at a hospital in Gaza —and to raise awareness among the American public about the war crimes they have witnessed.
In connection with the international premiere of Poh Si Teng’s harrowing documentary ‘American Doctor,’ we invite you to a very special evening of conversation, where you can meet the film’s director and its three main characters: Thaer Ahmad, Mark Perlmutter, and Feroze Sidhwa.
‘American Doctor’ depicts the reality in Gaza through powerful and deeply disturbing images of the wounded and dead – including children. Already in the film’s opening scene, a crucial ethical dilemma arises: the director hesitates at the thought of showing the scenes, while one of the doctors insists that the absence of the images risks watering down the truth. At the event, the director and the doctors involved will discuss this conflict and the ethical considerations that have shaped the final film.
The evening also focuses on the doctors’ activism and their persistent struggle to shed light on the role of the United States in the war, including the significance of American weapons and fighter jet support to Israel in relation to the massive destruction and civilian deaths. A broader internationally shared responsibility, which Denmark is also part of.
The conversation will be in English.
