Final Night Folk! Newport Folk Festival film + mini concert with Geo Pjäserna
In keeping with tradition, we conclude this year's CPH:DOX with music at the Bremen Theater: a film about the legendary Newport Folk Festival, followed by a mini-concert in the same spirit with the sensational Danish duo Geo Pjäserna.
Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Peter, Paul & Mary – and now… Geo Pjäserna. We round off the festival with a film that is a cornucopia of iconic 60s folk music, and afterwards we pass the baton to some of the most exciting folk music from Denmark today. The musical documentary ‘Newport and the Great Folk Dream’ is a kaleidoscopic journey through the festival’s golden years of 1963–66. Among other things, the film depicts Bob Dylan’s landmark electric performance – most recently interpreted by Timothée Chalamet in the film ‘A Complete Unknown’ – as well as a string of both well-known and overlooked, but equally thrilling, performances: from Egyptian oud players and singing Canadian fishermen to virtuoso banjo players and much more.
After the credits, the music continues live on stage, where Geo Pjäserna – a duo straight outta Mols Bjerge consisting of author and guitarist Rasmus Theisen and cellist Asbjørn Elle – bring the folk tradition into the present. The duo, who have collaborated with musician Goss, among others, will play their own compositions: instrumental, acoustic sequences and melodies at the intersection of modern jazz and new folk. Music that will have the last word at this year’s CPH:DOX!
