Efterklang: The Makedonium Band (film + concert)
The adventurous band bring their nearly 30-strong new Macedonian band to DR Koncerthuset during CPH:DOX for two special concert events and a screening of their brand new documentary film directed by Andreas Johnsen.
The stage is set for an extraordinary event when 25 musicians from North Macedonia’s virtuosic and colourful musical culture join forces with the members of Efterklang. With an absolutely phenomenal female choir and the two maestros Stefje Stojkovski and Dejan Spasovic playing instruments you’ve probably never seen or heard before, the concert features new and classic Efterklang songs as well as local Macedonian songs and jams in dizzying rhythms. The occasion for this marvellous meeting of musical cultures is the world premiere of the film ‘Efterklang: The Makedonium Band’, which is screening before the concert. The film follows director Andreas Johnsen (‘Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case’, ‘Kidd Life’, ‘Bugs’) on the heels of Efterklang’s project: To go to North Macedonia and spend a week putting together a band of local musicians to perform in front of the architecturally insane monument Makedonium, which celebrates the country’s freedom and independence.
