'Burning Voice' (film) + Luna Ersahin (solo concert)

‘Burning Voice’ (film) + Luna Ersahin (solo concert)

Experience the premiere of the Danish documentary 'Burning Voice', a harsh and political film about women's rights, identity, and the price of speaking out. Through one woman's personal story, the film depicts negative social control and the oppression of women around the world. After the screening, the evening will continue with a concert by Luna Ersahin from the band AySay!

No CPH:DOX without concerts! We are proud to present an exclusive solo concert with Luna Ersahin from the critically acclaimed and popular band AySay in the Concert Hall’s Studio 2 – after the world premiere of the Danish film Burning Voice. The film is a deeply moving documentary directed by debutant Anna Bruun Nørager. The film follows Danish-Iraqi Tamara, a mother and activist who, from her life in Denmark, fights against negative social control and the oppression of women. Driven by her own experiences with violence and silence, she has made her voice a weapon for women without rights, while balancing her roles as mother, daughter, and activist amid threats and personal loss. As the founder of the online platform Iraqi Women’s Rights, Tamara has used social media for more than a decade as a tool in the fight against honor-related violence and patriarchal structures. With this film, Anna Bruun Nørager points to a global trend where women are killed solely because of their gender.
After the premiere, there will be an intimate solo concert with Luna Ersahin, who has written a song for the film together with the composers Niels Christian Sommer and Nicolai Gabold, who go under the alias FANMAIL. Luna Ersahin is a prominent voice in Danish music – among other things in the band AySay – and is known for her poignant portrayal of being a Kurdish/Danish woman in Denmark. With roots in both the Nordic and Southwest Asian cultures, she creates a musical universe where language and identity merge in Danish, Turkish, and Kurdish. She will be accompanied on stage this evening by Rezwan Taha from Rest in Beats.
