They report on corruption, police brutality and violence against women and people from the so-called lower castes. The fearless journalists from the news media outlet Khabar Lahariya are armed with the two most powerful weapons available to anyone: a pen and a smartphone. And they are all women. In first-time filmmakers Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh’s captivating film, we follow them at work in the rural areas where the patriarchy is strong, but where many women have had enough and are beginning to demand change. So in an activist turn, chief reporter Meera and her courageous colleagues, who themselves are Dalit women, are not content only with reporting. They also educate local women to engage in citizen journalism on their own, and to write with fire about the injustices and intimidation they experience on a daily basis. A brave first step in reclaiming their rights – not least to tell their own stories.
