Where Music Grows
Katrine Philp / Denmark & Sweden / 2026 / World Premiere / 90 min
On a farm south of Copenhagen, young elite musicians practice the difficult art of classical music. A beautiful and life-affirming film full of wonderful music.
60 km south of Copenhagen, a group of lucky cows and black-and-white pigs listen to classical music performed by some of the world’s most talented young musicians. They have traveled to Stevns from near and far to live on a farm. Under the expert guidance of Jacob – an energetic musician, teacher, and now also a self-taught farmer – the students learn to grow crops, care for animals, and prepare delicious dinners. On the farm, music is as much about community as it is about individual perfection.
Director Katrine Philp offers a warm and humorous glimpse into a sanctuary that challenges the idea of what it takes to survive in the absolute elite. A sanctuary that introduces a new element of mental and ecological sustainability in the cultivation of talent by focusing on helping young people last longer and not burn out. The cocktail that Jacob presents to the young people works. The animals and the farm give them a sense of calm that serves as the perfect counterpart to the otherwise extreme elite environment of which the young people are a part.
