Trans Memoria
Victoria Verseau / Sweden & France / 2024 / 72 min
Gender affirming transition is portrayed with nerve and a deep sense of presence in a personal film diary where the ghosts of the past still haunt the present.
Three friends are gathered in a hotel in Thailand. Filmmaker Victoria shared a room here with her friend Meril back in 2012 while they were both waiting for their gender confirmation surgery. Today, only Victoria is alive. And together with her two friends Athena and Aamina, she has traveled back to reflect on the fragility of life, death, and not least the strength of self-chosen communities.
‘Trans Memoria’ is a brave film that with presence and nerve gives shape to a lived and painful experience, where the ghosts of the past appear when you least expect it. A film that exists in a state of perpetual change between diary, documentary and staging. But also a movie that, above all, celebrates the courage to make a crucial life choice.
