The Mum in Me

Hilde Merete Haug / Norway / 2023 / 83 min

A sensitive and scientific analysis of infertility as a social phenomenon that will make you blush if you have ever asked your colleague when they are going to have children.

Prams and pregnant women are seen in a new light in a film that dares to tackle one of society’s toughest taboos: Infertility. Complicated feelings such as shame, envy and inadequacy weigh on every fifth woman in Western countries who, for one reason or another, cannot have children despite a burning, almost identity-bearing desire. Sensitive and well-reflected narratives are impressively combined with scientific analyses. Because even though this is a widespread phenomenon that many can recognise, we rarely discuss it in public. ‘The Mum in Me’ rectifies this, and after watching it, you’ll probably think twice before asking someone if they’re going to have children soon.
