The Father, The Sons and The Holy Spirit
Christian Sønderby Jepsen / Denmark / 2025 / World Premiere / 97 min
Two brothers reunite after a multi-million inheritance dispute in a film about blood, bonds and breakups - and about how hard it is to escape your own family.
The ghosts of the past haunt brothers Henrik and Christian in a very unusual family drama filmed over 14 years. A bitter inheritance dispute has cast long shadows over their shared upbringing, and as adults they both struggle to find their footing in life.
Now the younger brother Henrik has started a family of his own and is struggling to create stability in life and break the social legacy. But his older brother Christian is still driven towards chaos by the inner anger he cannot let go of and is tempted by an extremist brotherhood’s dubious promises of meaning and fraternity.
Like a Greek tragedy from the outskirts of Denmark, their story unfolds in a play of fate where small and large life choices have long and dramatic consequences. Christian Sønderby Jepsen has followed Henrik and Christian through the ups and downs of life over the years, and has created a film based on trust, where the hope of breaking the vicious circle is never extinguished. ‘The Father, the Sons & the Holy Spirit’ is an independent sequel to Jepsen’s film ‘The Will’ from 2010.
