Our Land
Orban Wallace / United Kingdom / 2025 / International Premiere / 91 min
Does everyone have the right to roam freely in nature? Not in England, where eccentric landowners and and nature lovers fight a creative battle over the land.
If we look to our Nordic neighbours, we find the ‘right of public access’. According to this rule, everyone has the right to roam freely in nature, regardless of who owns the land. This is not exactly the case in England. Here, a small group of people of noble descent own the vast majority of the land – and they do not want to be visited by just anyone! After all, they are responsible for managing their family’s proud history and heritage.
But in an era of increased focus on nature, ecology and health, the Right to Roam movement has emerged, and in a peaceful (and very creative) way, they refuse to stay at home. No fence or ‘No trespassing’ sign can keep members out when all they want is to go for a walk in the woods. Director Orban Wallace meets ‘old money’ families, nature lovers and eco-activists with an open mind and connects to the eccentric and quintessentially British mindset that emerges in the English when you venture far enough out into the countryside.
