One in a Million
Itab Azzam & Jack MacInnes / United Kingdom & Germany / 2026 / 103 min
10 år i en enestående ung piges liv, fra hun flygter fra Syrien til Tyskland med sin familie, hvor hun vokser op og bliver en ung kvinde. En medrivende film om eksil, håb og drømme set gennem unge øjne.
With eyes that sparkle with life and an enormous love for her parents and family, Isra’a is both an ordinary girl and a unique young person. War breaks out in Syria, and the family flees from Aleppo to Germany. Here, Isra’a grows up in exile and becomes a young woman, while her life takes shape in her new surroundings.
Filmed over a period of 10 years, ‘One in a Million’ is an exceptionally accomplished film about a single life – and about all the other lives it is closely intertwined with. With an absolutely fantastic young girl at the centre, directors Itab Azzam and Jack MacInnes have created an unforgettable film that does not turn a blind eye to the many great challenges and cultural barriers that children of refugee families grow up with. But at the same time, it is a film full of life, hope and dreams – just like Isra’a herself.
