My First Film

My First Film

Zia Anger / United States / 2024 / World Premiere / 100 min

A 20-something filmmaker embarks on making her first film with a group of friends. A meta-indie deconstruction of cinema itself, based on director Zia Anger's own experiences and on her live performance of the same name.

Zia Anger’s first film is based on her acclaimed cross-media performance of the same name, where she deconstructed a failed film project live on screen in front of an audience in a spontaneous collage of clips and commentary. ‘My First Film’ is a film adaptation of the (un-)making of the original film that the 20-something Zia set out to make. With a head full of ideas, Vita (Odessa Young) gathers a team of ambitious but inexperienced friends to realise her vision of a young woman (played by the intensely charismatic young star Devon Ross) and her search for her true self. With irony, with and honest emotion where it counts, ‘My First Film’ is a playful and performative film that deconstructs itself as we watch it.
