Laughing Day
Lars Emil Leonhardt & Brendan Cooney / Denmark / 2024 / World Premiere / 80 min
A quirky hybrid film that employs understated humour and spontaneous encounters to explore the healing power of conversation and its ability to break down both internal and external boundaries.
For ten years, Jack has shared an apartment with his Danish wife and their two children. But now the American expat has been evicted and has crawled into his sleeping bag to live in the park across the street from his former home. Deeply hurt by the breakup, but intoxicated by his newfound freedom, Jack strays into candid conversations with people he meets by chance in the park. Through these spontaneous conversations, he tries to come to terms with his loss and understand what led to the breakup. But many of the people he meets at random are just as lost as he is, and slowly his open mind invites them to share their own stories. ‘Laughing Day’ is a quirky and offbeat hybrid film with an understated sense of humour and sensitive moments of redemption.
