Jason’s Box
Michael Strassburger / Germany / 2026 / World Premiere / 89 min
What happens when an experienced climate scientist becomes an activist? In Greenland, scientist Jason Box and his local colleagues are launching a radical project to raise global awareness.
Jason Box has been researching the Greenland ice sheet for years. He studies, monitors and reports on the increasingly bleak reality of climate change and the melting ice sheet. It is hard work being a climate expert and glaciologist at a time when the world seems to have forgotten its greatest challenge. Jason is not only trying to document the climate crisis, but also to find an outlet for his own disappointment at the world’s indifference to the climate.
In the absence of other solutions and with a tenacious do-it-yourself approach, Jason is launching a crowdfunding campaign to reduce CO2 emissions and plant trees along the ice sheet in collaboration with locals and volunteers. With Greenland at its centre, ‘Jason’s Box’ is a film about powerful forces that are evolving daily and affecting not only the lives of locals, but all of us. It is a story about what happens when the objectivity of the researcher meets the commitment of the activist – and about a small group of people trying to make big changes.
