Hydrogen – Revolution or Illusion?
Andreas Pichler / Germany, Italy & Norway / 2024 / 90 min
Can innovative pioneers in green hydrogen technology solve the energy challenges of the future, or is the hydrogen hype closer to wishful thinking? A film about energy, technology and science.
The Danish shipping giant Maersk, together with steel giant Thyssen Krupp in Germany, have invested huge sums of public funding to convert their massive energy consumption to a ‘green’ solution. Hydrogen plays a central role in this. At the same time, African countries like Morocco and Namibia are gearing up to become giant suppliers of the new energy source. But does it all make sense? And what is the story behind the blue hydrogen that will come from Norway via a pipeline?
German filmmaker Andreas Pichler follows the pioneers behind the staggeringly ambitious project and shows that the energy transition is more complicated than expected – and that it still holds many unforeseen surprises. Pichler takes a concrete and scientific approach, unraveling the many threads so that you actually become wiser.
