An Eye For an Eye

An Iranian woman sentenced to death for killing her abusive husband fights for her life in a nerve-racking courtroom thriller about life, death and the very real price of forgiveness.
Sharia law in Iran is clear: pay blood money to the victim or pay with your life. Fourteen years after killing her abusive husband in self-defence, Tahereh faces a potential death sentence unless she can pay a staggering amount of money to her husband’s family.
Tahereh’s son fights a desperate battle against injustice to raise the necessary funds in a society where victims of domestic violence are rarely taken seriously. At the same time, we meet her late husband’s family and feel their deep sorrow at having lost a son and a brother. With full access to private negotiations and intimate moments in both families, the film takes us deep into a moral and legal labyrinth that unfolds like a Shakespearean courtroom thriller about life, death and the very real price of forgiveness.
