Comedian, actor and HBO star Jerrod Carmichael visits CPH:DOX

In collaboration with MAX, CPH:DOX presents a unique meeting between comedy, self-staging and reality TV when Emmy-winning comedian Jerrod Carmichael visits the festival. Tickets go on sale today!

The event will take place on March 28 at 21:00 at the Bremen Theater, where we will screen an episode of his groundbreaking TV series ‘Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show’. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Carmichael and the hosts of the podcast A Seat at the Table.

With his latest series, Carmichael explores the boundaries between reality and fiction in an unprecedented way, using his own life as the stage for a deeply personal and often confrontational experiment. His approach to documentary and reality pushes the boundaries of what we perceive as authentic.

Head of Live at CPH:DOX, Marie Erbs Ørbæk, looks forward to the visit:

“Carmichael has long been at the top of our wish list, because whether he’s jumping on stage in a stand-up special or challenging outdated notions of black masculinity in his self-titled reality show, his play with self-representation in documentary formats is incredibly interesting.”

The event is the third of its kind where CPH:DOX in collaboration with MAX invites prominent voices in comedy, documentary and television. Previous guests include John Wilson (‘How To with John Wilson’) and Nathan Fielder (‘The Rehearsal’), and now Jerrod Carmichael joins the ranks of artists rethinking the narrative of real life.

          About Jerrod Carmichael
Jerrod Carmichael is an Emmy-winning comedian, actor and screenwriter from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During the 2010s, his standup career began to take off after moving to Los Angeles, and Carmichael has since released three comedy specials on HBO: ‘Love at the Store’ (2014), ‘8’ (2017) and ‘Rothaniel’ (2022).

He also wrote, directed and starred in the 2021 Sundance-winning buddy comedy ‘On the Count of Three’, has appeared in the Oscar winner ‘Poor Things’ and hosted both Saturday Night Live and the Golden Globes. He can currently be seen starring in ‘Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show’, which premiered at the South By Southwest festival in 2024 and is now streaming on MAX.

          Look forward to CPH:DOX 2025!
On March 19-30, 2025, CPH:DOX will open its doors for the 22nd time for a festival with the ambition to introduce audiences to the best documentaries from Denmark and abroad. At the same time, we will shed light on some of today’s most controversial and pressing issues through talks, debates and events.

The full program will be announced on 26 February 2025, but until then – just like here – we will announce special events, premieres and guests. So stay tuned!
