Deep-sea mines from a research perspective

Deep-sea mines from a research perspective

We launch the digital festival at CPH:DOX with a live-streamed panel from the National Museum about deep-sea ecosystems, the impact of deep-sea mining on the climate and the potential role of minerals in the green transition.

Join us for the last screening of this year’s SCIENCE:CINEMA at the National Museum, when we simultaneously launch this year’s digital festival. After the screening of ‘How Deep is Your Love’, we invite you to a conversation with, among others, deep-sea guide Julia M. Otte about the fascinating ecosystems of the deep sea and the unique deep-sea nodules. The conversation also touches on the increasing interest in deep-sea mining and how it affects the hidden world beneath the ocean’s surface. The researchers discuss both the devastating consequences of mining and the conflicting views that see minerals as a potential solution to the green transition. The panel debate will be livestreamed nationwide, and afterwards we invite everyone to a free drink in the National Museum’s beautiful foyer to celebrate that audiences from all over the country can now follow CPH:DOX online.
