Unanimal
Sally Jacobson & Tuva Bjork / Sweden & France / 2025 / World Premiere / 72 min
An imaginative and philosophical film about the relationship between humans and animals, with Isabella Rossellini as narrator. Innovative, absurdly witty and with a genuinely creative spirit.
How do we look at animals? And how do they see us? Humans are the dominant life form on the planet at the moment, and our relationship with other species says a lot about ourselves. Perhaps it is time to rethink our place in the world and our relationship with animals? ‘Unanimal’ does so with imaginative, wild creativity and a spirit of philosophical adventure.
Narrated by Isabella Rossellini, directors Sally Jacobson and Tuva Björk take a delightfully liberating humorous look at humankind’s complex and often absurd relationship with animals in the Anthropocene era – a time when humanity has conquered the planet and animals themselves have been reduced to food, pets and objects.
There are no firm conclusions in ‘Unanimal’. On the contrary, there is room to pursue adventurous lines of thoughts, and to dispel the illusion that humanity has subjugated the world once and for all.
