The End of the Internet
Dylan Reibling / Canada / 2025 / World Premiere / 85 min
From a squat in Berlin through a futuristic Taiwan to the Brazilian rainforest. Around the world, hacktivists are fighting a shadow war for an internet beyond the influence of tech giants.
With the rightward turn of the tech giants under Trump, the internet has become the ideological battleground of the 21st century. But around the world, hacktivists are fighting to decentralize the web and take back control of the flow of information. If that sounds abstract, don’t worry: Here is a film that will tell you what you need to know about a topic that lies in the shadows of public debate, but which could change the world forever. Canadian filmmaker Dylan Reibling has created a film that knows when to listen and think, and amazingly manages to be about the internet without us ever seeing a computer screen. Instead, we visit an anarchist squat community in Berlin, a hyper-futuristic Taiwan and a village in the Brazilian rainforest, where hacktivists fight for a free internet, and ultimately for a free world. It’s thought-provoking, and light years away from your average, pumped-up tech movie.
