ILOVERUSS
Tova Mozard / Sweden / 2025 / World Premiere / 90 min
Two artistic souls meet on the outskirts of Hollywood and a 20-year friendship is born. Illusions and realities are challenged while a raw and intimate film emerges.
From ‘Sunset Boulevard’ to ‘Mulholland Dr.’. Hollywood has been the subject for many movies over the years. None of them are quite like ‘ILOVERUSS’, which begins 20 years ago when Swedish artist and filmmaker Tova Mozard accidentally met aspiring actor Russ on a movie set, and a long friendship took shape between two artistic souls in a city that is ready to eat you alive.
Together they created a fantasy world in the shadow of glamorous Los Angeles. He practiced his lines, she practiced her directing skills, and slowly the line between beautiful illusions and harsh realities – and between documentary and fiction – dissolved.
Mozard has gathered material shot over 20 years for a raw and personal film from the backside of the seductive movie city. A world of diners, swimming pools and bungalows, portrayed with an artist’s eye for the sunny Californian surface – and for the twilight of the mind that over the years settles over her close friend.
