Zar Paulo
Freja Rørkær & Oskar Langballe Dahl / Denmark / 2025 / World Premiere / 86 min
A unique taste of a playful and brand new series about the Danish pop rock success Zar Paulo.
The story of the Danish band Zar Paulo is a tale of a group of young men who met at a boarding school, formed a band and suddenly became wildly successful. But it’s also a story about a bunch of nerdy young men who love Star Trek, computer games and ancient Roman coins. And now it’s also a story you can experience on the big screen with the first two episodes of a brand new series about the band.
It’s a unique, unfiltered insight into the process and period leading up to Zar Paulo releasing their first album and really breaking through to the general public. We’re along for the entire journey from an abandoned county hospital to their warm-up gigs for the massive success band The Minds of 99, to a contract with one of the country’s most reputable record labels.
Their software may suck, and Captain Kirk has been replaced by five young guys who have named themselves after a Russian Tsar. Nevertheless, Czar Paulo is headed straight for the stars.
