CPH:INDUSTRY offentliggør vinderne af årets branchepriser

The juries have deliberated and the winners of the CPH:INDUSTRY awards 2024 have been chosen.

A total of seven awards have been given away during the course of this year’s six-day event for industry professionals, given to CPH:FORUM projects looking for gap-financing as well as the CPH:LAB with a focus on immersive non-fiction.

Without further ado, the winners are:

The Eurimages New Lab Outreach Award

The Eurimages New Lab Award for Outreach worth 30.000 Euro goes to TIMESTAMP by Kateryna Gornostai, produced by Olha Beskhmelnytsina and Natalia Libet (2Brave Productions / Rinkel Film & Docs, UA & NL) presented at CPH:FORUM 2024. The Outreach Award is to promote public awareness of innovative and experimental projects at the end of production or in post-production.

The jury consisted of Emile Hertling Péronard (Producer, Anorak Film), Eleni Chandrinou (Audiovisual Consultant, Greece) and Patricia Finneran (Impact Fund Officer, The StoryBoard Collective).

On their motivation for choosing TIMESTAMP, the jury said:

“This war movie takes place far from the frontline where soldiers, mostly men, fight for their country. It is the story of teachers, mostly women, who fight to preserve a sense of normalcy for the children going to school in bombed out buildings, underground metro stations, or on Zoom from laptops in their teacher’s backyard.

The jury is pleased to give the 30,000 Euro Outreach Award to a highly cinematic film that avoids traditional narrative structures to tell the story of a school year in a country at war, crafted by an all women team of Ukrainian filmmakers.

This film provides a nuanced image of life in a war-torn country, and we hope that this award will help it find broad international audiences. The award goes to TIMESTAMP by Kateryna Gornostai, produced by Olha Beskhmelnytsina and Natalia Libet.”

The Eurimages New Lab Innovation Award

The Eurimages New Lab Award for Innovation worth 20.000 Euro goes to the CPH:LAB project GARDEN ALCHEMY by Michelle and Uri Kranot, produced by Peter Fisher (DK). The Innovation Award is for innovative and experimental projects in development.

The jury consisted of Carole Kremer (Head of Office at Creative Europe MEDIA Desk, Film Fund Luxembourg), Tuuli Penttinen-Lampisuo (Poike Productio), and Anneli Kustfält (Commissioning Editor, SVT).

On their motivation for choosing GARDEN ALCHEMY, the jury said:

For this first edition of the EURIMAGES Innovation New Lab Award, the jury has chosen an audiovisual experience combining beautiful hand drawn visuals with innovative immersive technology that sparks artistic delight and enables human connection. In particular, we appreciated the multi-sensory aspect of the piece that spans many art forms including animation, painting, music and dance, and that consists of an intuitive user-led experience taking place in an environment that feels safe, magical and welcoming to audiences of all ages, with an ambitious international distribution plan.

The UniFrance Doc Award & The Rise and Shine Award

The jury for the two awards consisted of Charlotte Madsen, (Commissioning Editor, SVT); Babette Dieu (Project Leader & Coordinator, Marché du Film) and Freja Johanne Nørgaard Sørensen (Sales Executive, DR).

CPH:FORUM, Unifrance and TitraFilm teamed up for the second year in a row in handing out the Unifrance Doc Award for the best French majority or minority co-produced pitch of this edition’s CPH:FORUM. The award consists of €2300 in post-production support for subtitling at TitraFilm and a one year Unifrance membership totalling the value of the award to €5390. The award goes to PODIUM (YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES) by Rachel Leah Jones and Philippe Bellaïche (Home Made Docs / Close Up Films, Filmoption International & Temps Noir / IL, CA, FR & CH).

On their motivation for choosing PODIUM (YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES), the jury said:

We have chosen a film that’s a timely exploration of the power dynamics at stake in a democratic context, offering an unexpected and insightful perspective. Its ability to connect with current issues demonstrates its relevance and importance and puts it in a larger historic perspective – creating a dialogue between the past and present. We want to help the production reach their goal of an August 2025 release, and hope that a post-production support including subtitle will help them reach a broad audience. The award goes to… PODIUM (YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES).

CPH:FORUM partnered with renowned sales agent Rise And Shine to introduce for the first time the Rise And Shine Award for the project with the best international potential and no sales agent attached yet at this year’s pitching forum. The award consists of a €3000 cash prize awarded to the producer of the project. The Rise and Shine Award goes to CHILDREN OF HONEY by Jigar Ganatra and produced by Natalie Humphreys (Storyboard Studios / TZ & UK).

On their motivation for choosing CHILDREN OF HONEY, the jury said:

This documentary is a generous invitation that welcomes us into a rarely seen culture that is threatening to disappear and sheds light on its pressing issues. Through the lens of the next generation, it tackles heavy topics with a playful spirit. Thanks to the collaborative approach the film promises a fresh and impactful perspective. Its universal appeal ensures that it will resonate not only with festivals, but also with broadcasters and audiences around the world. It is with great pleasure that we present this award to… CHILDREN OF HONEY.
