Fungi: Web of Life
Joseph Nizeti & Gisela Kaufmann / Australia / 2023 / 40 min
With Björk as narrator and in IMAX 3D, we are taken on a fascinating journey of discovery into the world of fungi, which may hold new solutions to our biggest problems.
Not quite plant, not quite animal, but something in between. Fungi have long fascinated scientists, but still harbour some of nature’s greatest mysteries. With Björk as a magical narrator on the soundtrack and British biologist Dr Merlin Sheldrake as a travelling expert witness, the film digs deep into the intricate fungal web and reveals a subterranean landscape that has existed since the dinosaurs. It’s possible that the solutions to some of our biggest problems are already under our feet, where, for example, there are fungi that can naturally break down plastic. In just 40 fascinating minutes, this is a scientific crash course that not only teaches you about nature’s strangest organism, but also celebrates the living works of art that are created when the fungi fill the huge screen and bloom in magnificent IMAX 3D.
