PREDICTING THE PAST

History increasingly plays a crucial role in the major debates of our time – from post-colonialism, claims to representation and identity politics, to the resurgence of fascism, to Putin’s historical justifications for his invasion of Ukraine. Everywhere the past casts its shadow over the present; everywhere it is renegotiated; everywhere it is used as an argument that some are right and others are wrong. We have put together a programme of six powerful films, each in its own way shining a light on history as a battleground, as a weapon and as outright explosive material.

REWRITING THE FUTURE

The future is out there, always on the move. But it’s also always right here, in the public conversations about where we want to go and not least where we don’t want to go. In ‘Rewriting the Future’ we look at the images of the future – utopian and dystopian – that dominate our times, and their impact on the way we design and redesign our societies. Right now.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg

Kunsthal Charlottenborg will be open to all guests from 10.00 am every day during the festival. Here you’ll find our very own cinemas Social Cinema and Mezzaninen with amazing film screenings, events and much more.

The Science Stage

The National Museum: 17 – 19 March
CPH:DOX moves into the National Museum of Denmark, which is transformed into the festival’s science stage. Look forward to some of the world’s best documentaries on everything from climate science, sustainable cities and cyborgs to human brains and citizen wages to and the Arctic seen from the inside.

The Community Stage

Pressen, Politikens Hus: 21 – 23 March
This year, the social scene moves into the Pressen building on Rådhuspladsen and transforms the old and crude printing hall into a cinema, where we present, together with Politiken, both domestic and foreign affairs on everything from work ethics and surveillance culture to the Iranian women’s struggle and American right-wing rationalism.

The Art Stage

The National Gallery (SMK): 24 – 26 March
In beautiful, grand surroundings at the SMK, we open the doors to a weekend full of documentaries about and with the arts at their centre, framed by screenings, artist talks, group critiques and audiovisual concerts.
