OPEN CALL: Do you want to make the visual artwork for CPHDOX 2023?

Are you an artist, designer, animator or illustrator? Are you interested in the intersection between film, digital media and art? And do you want to create the new artwork for CPH:DOX 2023? CPH:DOX is now accepting proposals and concepts from creative visual talents who want to help shape the visual identity of the festival for 2023. The [extended] deadline is October 5.

Since its first edition in 2003, the visual expression of CPH:DOX has been an important part of the festival’s identity helping to make the festival one of the largest and most popular documentary film festivals in the world.

Artwork for both digital and physical campaign
During the upcoming festival in 2023, CPH:DOX will be visible with a major outdoor campaign in urban spaces and selected venues in Copenhagen as well as a number of selected cities around the country, where the new artwork will be used together with CPH:DOX’s existing visual framework on posters, banners, etc. At the same time, the selected artwork will be rolled out on the festival’s digital platforms (Facebook, Insta, Twitter, etc.) where it will promote the festival’s extensive film programme of over 200 films, events and concerts.

The next edition of CPH:DOX will take place from 15-26 March 2023, but already after the summer break we will start working on the visual campaign for the festival.

Our open-call assignment includes the following:

  • Artwork/motifs for 3 main posters (70 x 100 cm, 300 dpi) that will work and perform together and separately. The three posters will support the festival’s ambition to focus on three particularly important themes: Art, Science and Society.
  • The selected artworks should be usable digitally and preferably in animated versions for digital marketing and on social media. The digital artwork must be able to function with text and graphics in interaction with CPH:DOX’s graphic framework. Please attach a demonstration of the artwork in mp4 format.

The applicants behind the three best proposals/concepts will be invited for an interview in middle of October, after which CPH:DOX will proceed with one of the proposals. In this process, the formats for the final artwork will also be specified. Deadlines will also be agreed at this point. The assignment is fee-based.
