RESPONDING TO PERMACRISIS

15:00-15:15 Wednesday 22.03, Social Cinema, Kunsthal Charlottenborg

2022’s Word of the Year “Permacrisis” fittingly reflects a dizzying sense of lurching from one trouble to another. The DocuMentality initiative is currently running a thorough research of the roots – and solutions for disproportionally high levels of stress, depression and sense of powerlessness in the nonfiction industry. Rebecca Day, one of the initiators of the project, will introduce the research and share potential outcomes for the documentary community, and invites us to participate in research focus groups at CPH:DOX.

DocuMentality is a global research initiative that creates dialogue and collaborative change on the key mental health and well-being challenges currently facing the documentary community: filmmakers, crew and participants. We are an initiative of the D-Word and Film in Mind, partnered with the Documentary Organisation of Canada and the Scottish Documentary Institute and supported by American Documentary/POV, Canada Media Fund, the BFI Doc Society Fund and Screen Scotland.

Following a series of filmmaker focus groups carried out in the UK, the USA and Canada in 2021/2022, DocuMentility co-founders, Rebecca Day & Malikkah Rollins,  invite decision makers, funders and institutions to contribute to the research by attending a 90 minute focus group during CPH:DOX.

Join us for this interactive meeting where attendees will be privy to a ‘first look’ preview of the emerging findings on the experiences of filmmakers with a special focus on the perspective of  filmmakers from historically marginalized communities.

Attendees will be asked to share their perspectives on the anecdotal research and how best we can collaboratively support the mental health and well-being of the community. Finally, they’ll be invited to share ideas for how the initiative can move from research to action steps in our effort to create structural change.

This will be a private session with a maximum of 6 attendees in each focus group.
