THE UNCENSORED LIBRARY
Reporters Without Borders / Germany / 2020
The Uncensored Library is a digital library in the computer game Minecraft. Since Minecraft is available in countries with press censorship it bypasses censorship and makes independent journalism available again.
Bypassing digital firewalls of the world’s most authoritative regimes is a challenge. Fascinating millions of young people for press freedom and engaging them in political activism an even bigger one. The Uncensored Library by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) does both by using Minecraft as a medium. A digital library providing young people with independent journalism and playfully educates them. For the first time ever, the computer game Minecraft was used in a ground-breaking new way – by turning it into a medium to bypass censorship.
