A multifaceted examination of contemporary imagery through photography in a game.
This work is a multifaceted examination of contemporary imagery through photography in a game. Is taking pictures in a game a true form of photography? It simulates photography, leaving only the gesture of taking a picture. Perhaps that is the extreme state in which photograhy has become a formality. Through this game-like interaction of taking pictures in a virtual space, the viewer not only experiences photography as play, but also confronts many of the issues at the heart of the transformation of images by computers and networks. From virtual selves to image search engine filters, from green screens to multiple screenshots flitting through surreal spaces, this work immerses the viewer in the mechanical processes that regulate contemporary image making and their impact on the relationship between photographer and device.
