LARS ON LILHOLT
Henrik Veileborg / Denmark / 2023 / 70 min / World Premiere
The soon-to-be 70-year-old, beloved singer-songwriter Lars Lilholt is still going strong and generously shares insights from the long road of his life.
From a series of hotel rooms on a tour with his young musicians, Lars Lilholt talks about his long life in the service of music, and about turning points that have had an impact on him as a person, musician and songwriter. We hear about the musician Otto Trads, who anchored Lilholt in folk music, about recognition from youth hero Björn Afzelius and about how ‘Call it Love’ – Lilholt’s biggest hit to date – was born out of powerlessness and anger. With the routines of touring as a backdrop, we get highlights from Lilholt’s vast back catalogue, brand new material, and songs performed live during the tour. Death walked side by side with Lilholt for a while, but his music becomes a life-affirming meeting place between generations. This time the film will be shown on the big screen, followed by a sing-along in the Grand Theatre, simultaneously with the Danish TV broadcast.
